Salmon are running from June to December! 5 kinds of SALMON run this river! King (Chinook) , Coho (Silvers), Sockeye, Chum and Pink. 2003 was a Pink salmon year with over 20 Million fish in their run alone! "Tyee" size Springs (Chinook salmon over 30 lbs) are monstrously strong and fight hard right to the boat. Coho salmon are the acrobats with weights running from 2lbs to 20 lbs. Sockeye salmon are also wicked fighters and the best of all the salmon to eat. Chum salmon make the best smoked salmon and due to their size 8 to 40 lbs. they are known as tackle busters.
Steelhead trout:From December to March! The Vedder, Harrison, and Chehalis rivers all have excellent winter Steelhead runs. This is the most wily and difficult of all trout to catch. Most "Steelheaders" are experienced fishermen looking for a purer fishing experience. The size, strength, and speed of these fish make them World renowned fighters.
CHINOOK SALMON (KING or SPRING SALMON) Live here nearly all year! We see 2 sub-species of Chinook Salmon, White and Red meat. The preferred eating are the Red Springs. Both offer major fight and some hit record weights. Each year many are taken over 50 lbs. Chinook "jacks" (juvenile Tyee's) are found in silver condition interspersed with their larger spawning adults.
